We celebrated Ben’s 10th on the beautiful Island of St. Thomas. His birthday wish was to snorkel at Sapphire beach, but unfortunately his wish didn’t come true.
Tropical storm (or Hurricane) Isaac hit the Island on his birthday. We were informed the night before of the tumultuous situation. When blaring sirens awoke us at 2:00 a.m., I was certain they were storm warnings. It was only a fire alarm. After most occupants in our building evacuated, we were told that it was "human caused". Thanks a lot little pranksters. We received a bottle of wine and an apology letter from the hotel staff for our inconvenience. Hopefully, our maid likes wine:)
In the morning, twelve foot waves were crashing against Morning Star Beach at the Marriott Reef Hotel. Storm warnings came by way of phone message, updating us on it’s severity.

We had spent the morning hunkered down playing card games, and lounging around. I did, however, manage to sneak out and purchase a birthday cake for Ben at a local bakery.
Once the weather subsided, we spent the day visiting the Marriott Reef, and snorkeling at our beach. Messages had come to our hotel room informing us that the beaches were closed and all water activities were cancelled. However, we never got the message, we were too busy snorkeling on our beach.
Fortunately, the pool was open. At the pool, Jordan informed the activity host that it was Ben’s birthday. They gave Ben a monkey, a St. Thomas hat, and a bag of candy. It made his day!
That evening we ventured downtown for dinner. As I was driving in downtown Charlotte Amalie, waves were billowing over the roadway. It was quite a sight, but didn't hamper our activity. We ate dinner at The Green House restaurant, located along the oceanfront. We celebrated Ben’s birthday with song and delightful food. Every year Ben tells me, it’s the best birthday ever. I hope that never ends.

Kate upon listening to the hurricane warning. Unfortunately, when the lights went out and we really needed her flashlight, she had forgot to put in batteries.
Card games - baloney - or something like that. Maybe it was "Go Fish".
Starting to rain again!
A few little waves, and wind.
Ben with his birthday presents from the Marriott.
Is that a monkey I see flying on my fan?
Ben's birthday dinner, with his fabulous birthday cake. It really was a great cake!
Ben's birthday present when he arrived home from our trip thanks to Meagan and Quinn.
